"Faith of the Free"
-- A "grassroots forum" of information, inspiration and ideas...about the (humbly questing, openly questioning and radically inclusive) "liberal way" in religion...its rich heritage, intrinsic values and growing relevance for an ever-shrinking world. --

-- Still more evidence of significant changes in the nature of religious faith in the United States. This one's very interesting to me;

Quote:

Survey Says...Less than 1 percent of Americans between the ages of 18 and 23 has a biblical worldview, according to a new study.

A biblical worldview, as defined by The Barna Group, is believing that absolute moral truth exists; the Bible is completely accurate in all of the principles it teaches; Satan is considered to be a real being or force, not merely symbolic; a person cannot earn their way into Heaven by trying to be good or do good works; Jesus Christ lived a sinless life on earth; and God is the all-knowing, all-powerful creator of the world who still rules the universe today.

-- What's this? People starting to question what they're being fed? People daring to think for themselves... to think in new ways? How can that be? What does this mean to those "the Bible said it, I believe it, that settles it" fundamentalist religious institutions like the Southern Baptists? Are they beginning to lose their dogma-driven, authoritarian grip over the minds of the young? What happens when these folks reach their 40's, begin to raise families, etc. I'm hoping that it reflects a new kind of self-disciplined spirituality in our nation, one of respect for diversity and seeking of unity of spirit more than uniformity of opinion. One can hope, can't he? Your thoughts on any of this? Here's a link to more of this study, from the Barna Group;
