This is an offshoot of a "libertarian thread" that I recently posted elsewhere. If I had a blog -- which, for better or worse, I decided against doing -- it might be titled "Beyond Live and Let Die". I just don't believe that it's the best thing that we humans can come up with...that human society can envision or adopt as a way to do this premise of "free society". can envision or adopt as a way to do this premise of "free society". I think it's important to at least occasionally point out the futility of such dog-eat-dog, zero-sum ultra-libertarian ethics. But, assuming that you agree with me on this, how do we get from A to B on this...from "Live and Let Die" to "Live and Let Live"? Can't we still have the basics of a free market economy while raising it to a higher, more healthy and ultimately more sustainable paradigm of competition with respectful inclusion and uplifting (rather than a perpetual game of winners and losers)? And, what might a liberal-religious faith have to offer in support of such a significant tectonic shift of thinking about such a fundamental aspect of Western society, its economic norms and even its educational system?
