-- I do think that dealing with the concept of creeds, and how tightly we hold them, is a central part of religion...even of a thorough-going liberal faith. Convictions are just as important to us as to anyone else. (Far from being a faith where "we can believe anything we want to," we are a religious community in which each is free to believe what he/she is most compelled to believe, based upon personal observation, experience, and interaction with the people and world around us, at any particular point in our lives. I also think that for religious liberals, it's essential to, at some point and in some way, incorporate the inevitability of incompleteness, fallibility and ongoing change into our creeds and convictions.
-- Those are my initial thoughts on this subject of creeds and convictions, and their place in a liberal church...a liberal faith. If you'd like to share in conversation on this subject, I'd love to hear your thoughts on this!
-- I'll keep this category going on a "temporary, limited time" basis, to see if there's any interest in it.
